Success story

A troubled launch is stabilized, then handed over in full working order

Seconds & Surplus

Seconds & Surplus sells building materials from several locations; PeakBeyond stabilized a struggling new store, built multi-location inventory, and handed everything to the client's new IT team without interrupting sales.

A new site that couldn't take orders reliably

Seconds & Surplus sells discount building materials from several Dallas–Fort Worth locations, where what's in stock differs from store to store.

Its new website launched with poor performance, order-processing errors and crashes driven by bot traffic — the worst combination for a retailer whose customers check stock before driving over.

Configurable products needed required add-ons, stock had to be accurate by location, and web orders had to reach the back office.

Stabilize, then build the capability the business actually needed

PeakBeyond went after the causes rather than the symptoms: escalating the order-processing errors, putting a web application firewall in front of the bot traffic, and moving the store to managed hosting built for the platform.

With the base steady, we added what a multi-location retailer needs — location-level inventory, store-specific pages and kits, and product options that force the required add-ons.

When the client brought technology in-house, we treated the handover as a deliverable in its own right rather than an ending.

Fix, extend, then hand over cleanly

Three phases over three years, each with a clear end point.

PeakBeyond worked with Seconds & Surplus's internal team and specialized technology partners to:

  • Escalated and resolved the order-processing errors after launch
  • Added a web application firewall to stop the bot-driven crashes
  • Moved the store to managed hosting and upgraded the platform with every extension
  • Deployed multi-location inventory with store-specific pages and kits
  • Fixed configurable product options, required add-ons and order statuses, and resolved an admin outage
  • Documented every service, walked the new IT team through the payment gateway switch with test transactions, moved account access and supplied the data feed views

Stable, capable, and handed over without a hitch

The store moved to its new host in February 2020, ending the performance and crash problems that followed launch.

Location-level inventory and store-specific pages gave customers accurate stock for the branch they were driving to.

At handover the payment gateway switched over successfully and transactions continued normally, with the new IT team holding documentation for every service.

The engagement ended the way it should: with the client's own team in control and nothing broken on the way out.
