Success story
A fabric retailer sells by the quarter yard on a platform that only counts whole units
Mood Fabrics
Mood Fabrics sells fabric by the fractional yard across its stores, showrooms and website; PeakBeyond has been its technical lead through two replatforms, a back-office upgrade and the custom integration that makes fractional selling work.

The Challenge
A business whose products don't fit standard commerce software
Mood sells fabric in fractional quantities — half a yard, a yard and a quarter — across stores, showrooms and its website, with every channel drawing on one retail management system.
Modern commerce platforms count whole units. Moving to one meant fractional quantities, a new product data model, search and merchandising, and a reworked back-office integration all had to be solved together, not one at a time.
At the same time the marketplaces expect whole-unit listings, new showrooms needed point of sale and in-store pickup, and the ageing back-office server had to be upgraded before any of it went live — without the website going dark for a business that sells every day.
The Strategy
Prove the hard part first, then build around it
PeakBeyond's position was that fractional selling was the make-or-break question, so it had to be settled before anything else was committed. We designed a data model based on quarter-yard base units with quantity and price conversion, and proved it in a working proof of concept.
With that settled, we set the order of the rest: upgrade the back-office server and split the systems onto their own machines first, then replatform, then add showroom point of sale and the marketplaces. Mood brought in a specialist build partner and several vendors, and we acted as technical lead across all of them so the design stayed the client's rather than any one vendor's.
The cutover itself was planned to avoid a dark period: the switch was made at the network level so shoppers moved to the new store without an outage.
The Solution
A replatform, a back office rebuild and new channels, in sequence
The program ran over two years as a series of contained projects, each with its own plan and vendors.
PeakBeyond worked with Mood Fabrics's internal team and specialized technology partners to:
- Designed and proved the fractional-quantity model — quarter-yard base units, with conversion of quantity, price and shipments back to the retail system
- Led the replatform to a new commerce platform as technical lead across the build, integration, search and hosting partners, including collection and URL mapping for search rankings
- Rebuilt the back office on new infrastructure: separate machines for the retail system, its database, the warehouse handhelds, the shipping software and the integration, plus the retail system upgrade
- Set up showroom point of sale with in-store pickup, split pickup and delivery orders, and fractional quantities at the counter
- Opened the marketplaces and social channels with whole-unit listings alongside the fractional catalog
- Built product feeds, marketplace tax handling and self-service reporting for the merchandising and operations teams
The Results
Live in a day, and selling in more places than before
The new store went live on 29 December 2025 with the switch made at the network level, so the site never went dark. The retail system upgrade completed and the integration now runs on its own machine.
Since launch, PeakBeyond has worked with Mood several times a week: clearing the overnight integration deadlocks, speeding up product and inventory uploads, recovering missed orders into the retail system, prioritizing redirects from the search engine's crawl report, and automating dropship file distribution.
Mood can now sell the same fabric by the quarter yard online, in its showrooms and, in whole units, on the marketplaces — with one set of inventory behind all of it.
The thing everyone said couldn't be done on a standard platform is now the everyday way Mood sells.
