A retailer's back office, storefront and stores finally run as one

Better Baseball

Better Baseball sells through its own storefront, the marketplaces and a retail superstore; PeakBeyond has guided its commerce strategy since 2017 — connecting a new ERP, replacing payments and tax, and relaunching the storefront with an in-store POS.

Growth outpaced the systems behind it

Better Baseball was selling in more places than its systems could keep up with: its own storefront, the marketplaces, additional stores and a retail superstore, each holding its own view of orders, inventory and customers.

Moving the back office to a new ERP raised the stakes. Orders, returns, payments, inventory and product data had to agree across every channel — including exchanges, gift cards, store credit and tax-exempt customers — or staff would spend their days reconciling by hand.

The hardest part was timing. The business runs on big sale events, its platform and checkout were overdue for an upgrade, and the retail store needed a POS tied to the same inventory. None of it could interrupt a selling season.

Sequence the work around the selling calendar

PeakBeyond's view was that the pieces had to be tackled in the right order, not all at once. The ERP connection came first, because every other decision — payments, tax, POS, inventory — depends on one trustworthy record of orders and stock.

Rather than build integrations in-house, we evaluated integration platforms and scoped the order, return, payment and product flows ourselves, so the client owned the design rather than a vendor's interpretation of it. We compared payment processors on how well they fit the ERP, not on rate cards alone, and chose a POS built for the storefront platform so the store and the website share inventory.

Each change was scheduled around the sale calendar, with upgrades staged in a separate environment and go-lives placed in the quiet weeks after the holidays.

One connected operation, delivered piece by piece

The plan has been delivered as a series of contained projects, each with its own go-live, test plan and fallback.

PeakBeyond worked with Better Baseball's internal team and specialized technology partners to:

  • Connected the storefront, marketplaces and other stores to the new ERP through an integration platform, covering orders, returns, payments, inventory and product data
  • Replaced payment processing and tax calculation, with reconciliation into the ERP and a short order-edit window before capture
  • Relaunched the storefront on a current platform version with a new front-end checkout, passwordless login and new transactional email
  • Rolled out an in-store POS with custom workflows for shipments, gift cards, split-tender refunds and stock reservations, all feeding the ERP
  • Rolled out multi-location inventory for a second retail location, with delivery estimates and location feeds from the ERP
  • Rebuilt product pages and merchandising, added an engraving customizer, and hardened the store with firewall rules, monitoring and malware scanning

Peak weekends pass without drama

Storefront orders have flowed into the ERP automatically since October 2024, and the new payment processor and tax engine took over in October 2025. The platform relaunch and the in-store POS went live in May 2026; on go-live day a POS transaction reached the ERP complete with its deposit and fulfillment.

The redesigned product pages shipped in March 2025, with the client reporting it was very happy with the results. When order imports stalled during a major sale, PeakBeyond set the recovery plan and then the longer-term fix, and orders kept flowing through the September 2026 sale weekend.

Better Baseball can now open a second location, run a peak sale and take a store sale on the same inventory without anyone re-keying an order.

A business that once ran on separate systems now runs on one — and can grow without adding back-office headcount.

PeakBeyond has been a pivotal part of Better Baseball's growth for years, and I don't say that lightly. They've guided every major step of our commerce strategy with a calm, do-it-in-the-right-order approach that has never once put a selling season at risk. When something breaks in the middle of a big sale, they're the first call and the steady hand, and they always come back with both the quick fix and the real one. What started as separate systems and locations now runs as one operation, and that's a direct result of their planning, patience, and follow-through. If you want a partner you can count on when it matters most, this is who you call.
